Interchangeable modules allow customizing your pump to best meet the
requirements of your application with off-the-shelf availability of design
variations and accessories.
Your Klaus Union pump can be field-modified to
accommodate for a new application.

Maintenance-Free Journal Bearings
Our
patented double journal bearing cartridge is maintenance free and
user-friendly.
Field assembling of the product lubricated bearing arrangement does not
require special tools, o-rings or alignment procedures. Three different
Bearing materials are available to provide the most efficient solution for
your application – Silicon Carbide (SSIC), Carbon (EK) and Stellite (ST).

Advanced Internal Flush Flow
The
internal flush flow utilizes the pumped liquid to lubricate the
journal bearings and absorb heat from Eddy Current Losses. A
redundant internal system directs the liquid and always maintains
sufficient vapor suppression to avoid flashing. To keep the magnet
area free from solids, a self cleaning filter can be added. An
external feed can be used to lubricate & cool or simply flush the
magnet area if desired.

Thermal Barrier
When pumping hot liquids, the thermal barrier protects the oil
lubricated ball bearings in the drive frame from overheating.
The
chart below illustrates how effective the thermal barrier works –
when pumping product at 300 °C the thermal barrier
lowers the ball
bearing temperature by appr. 28 °C - increasing the life time of the
bearings.

Six Isolation
Shell Options
The
isolation shell separates the pressurized product area from the
surrounding atmosphere. To meet the specific requirements of your
applications, Klaus Union offers six different
isolation shell options.
- Hastelloy®-C4
is our standard isolation shell material - providing a safe and
efficient solution.
- Titanium Alloy (LT31)
is an upgrade to our Hastelloy® shell when higher
pressure ratings and increased efficiency are required.
- Pure Titanium (RT15)
handles extremely aggressive chemicals where Hastelloy®-C4
or Titanium Alloy (LT31) would not withstand.
- Ceramic (Zirconium Oxide)
is
one of two non-metallic isolation shell options to eliminate Eddy
Current Losses and handle extremely aggressive liquids.
- Carbon fiber with PTFE liner
is our second non-metallic isolation shell option.
- Double
Wall Isolation Shell
provides true dual containment for extremely critical applications. Monitoring the vacuum between both Hastelloy®-C4 shells allows
detecting a breach of one shell and safely shut down the pump to avoid
further damage and leakage to the atmosphere.

Balanced Thrust Loads
The

minimum, to guarantee many years of maintenance-free operation.

Heating & Cooling
Optional jacketing of hydraulic casing and/or lantern allows heating
or cooling of your pump. Insulation can be added to
better maintain
the desired temperature and reduce energy costs.

Rub
Rings Protect the Isolation Shell
A
set of rub rings protects the isolation shell from damage, followed
by an undetected bearing failure. In the event of a ball bearing
failure, the outer rub ring prevents the outer magnet carrier from
contacting the isolation shell. The friction-related increase in
horsepower draw can be detected to shut down the pump and avoid
further damage. The same system prevents the inner magnet carrier
from contacting the isolation shell in the event of a journal
bearing failure.

Synchronous Magnetic Drive
The synchronous magnetic coupling transmits torque from the driving
outer magnet carrier on the atmospheric side through a static
isolation shell to the driven inner magnet carrier inside the pump.
The outer magnet carrier is connected to an electric motor – soft
start devices are not required. The high performance magnets can be
operated at liquid temperatures of up to 840 °F (450 °C) without
external cooling. Transmittable horsepower exceeds 700 HP.

Secondary Sealing
In
the event of isolation shell damage, the secondary sealing system
prevents product from leaking to the atmosphere. A pressure switch
and/or liquid sensor can be added to detect the damage and shut down
the pump.

Removable Drive Frame
In order to perform maintenance work on the drive frame ball
bearings (atmospheric side), the drive frame can be removed from the
liquid end of the pump without breaking the process seal.

Self-Venting and Fully Drainable
Internal ports and pathways are designed to make all internal
cavities of the pump self-venting and fully drainable.
A flanged
drain connection can be added if desired.
